Madeleine Fenwick is a multi-disciplinary artist. Primarily trained in traditional media of painting, drawing and printmaking, her recent work has developed into sculptural and digital installations.
After completing her studies at City & Guilds School in Kennington in 2012 she spent two years organising art exhibitions and events with a collective of emerging artists based in London. Of British origin, she relocated to Malta in 2014, where she set up a studio in Valletta.
Her work and practice developed significantly working in this environment. Drawing from local and traditional methods, working on collaborative projects and using natural materials in practice across a variety of disciplines ranging from painting and drawing, to video and performance, sculpture and mixed media installation.
In March 2022 Madeleine went to investigate and develop her sculptural techniques at StudioBlock m74 in Mexico City.
Driven by a fascination with the endless state of flux inhabited and co created by living and non-living beings and materials within the forms of time and space.
Exploring belief and symbol within the universal narratives of our history with an emphasis in the abstract and transience elements in the experience. The transference of this to rituals and objects accompanying human journeys. Illuminating the stories of our past in part as of the collective tapestry of human craftsmanship embedded in shared rituals.
Making objects as as a form of alchemy, using the transfiguration of materials and sensations of experience, imbued with the essence of their gesture and energy in formation containing the call to action of the creative drive inherent in myth making.
